What CPG Taught Me About Advancing Women – Interview With Liz Mayer

Blog Header Interview with Liz Mayer

What do you get when you combine a former CPG executive, a life coach, omnichannel business consultant and a cycling instructor? Someone who knows how to push you—strategically and spiritually—without burning you out.

Meet Liz Mayer, founder of The Monday Method, a career and mindset coaching practice for high-achieving women who are done with the grind and ready to design a life so good, they look forward to Mondays.

I sat down with Liz to talk about career pivots, ambition without burnout, and why so many brilliant women feel stuck. If you’ve ever built a killer brand plan but couldn’t articulate your own vision, this one's for you.

“I couldn’t jump into a soul-sucking job just to work.”

Liz spent nearly 15 years rising through the ranks at The J.M. Smucker Company, eventually leading consumer marketing across owned, earned, and paid media and the omnichannel marketing center of excellence. She was a fixer, a builder, a CPG powerhouse. Then came the 2021 layoff.

“That moment could’ve sent me right back into the corporate cycle,” she says. “But I had two young girls watching me. My mantra became, ‘Be her so they see her.’ I needed to show them that setbacks can become our launchpads.”

Instead of polishing up a new resume, she built a new identity. Today, Liz wears many hats: consultant at The Partnering Group, podcast host (The Monday Method), CycleBar instructor, and life coach. She was destined to create a life of “and’s” versus “or’s.”

Designing Personal Success (Without Selling Out)

Liz's coaching program is tailored for women who look great on paper—but feel like they’re suffocating behind the scenes. They have been told they are “too much” or they are afraid they are “not ready.” Either way they are compromising their power.

“They know how to create a strategy for their company, but not for their life,” she says. “They’re overwhelmed, second-guessing themselves, and living on autopilot. I help them move from self-critical to self-confident.”

Her clients aren’t burned out because they’re weak. They’re burned out because they’re wired to perform, produce, and please—without asking themselves what they want out of all their hard work.. As a result they are missing key influence points for personal growth, work-life integration, and income.

Through 1:1 coaching, group workshops, and her signature framework, Liz helps women get crystal-clear on what they actually want—and build careers around that.

“High performers stall out too.”

What makes Liz so effective isn’t just her coaching certification or her MBA. It’s her honesty about the traps even “successful” women fall into.

“You can be a high performer and still stall your career,” she wrote recently on LinkedIn. “Doing a great job isn’t enough if you’re invisible, exhausted, or misaligned.”

She challenges the myth that hard work alone equals career progression. “That works for about 10 years,” she quips. “Then it doesn’t.” Her mission is to arm women with a different playbook—one based on clarity, boundaries, and self-trust.

Lessons from CPG: You Can’t Automate Confidence

Liz’s CPG roots give her a unique edge. She’s lived the promo cycle, the matrixed chaos, the internal politics. She worked on both agency and client sides, and she has experience across marketing and sales functions. That credibility matters, especially to women in marketing and sales roles who face relentless pressure from all directions.

“I know what it’s like to lead teams, influence stakeholders, juggle cross-functional chaos—and still feel like you're not doing enough,” she says. “That’s why I don’t teach fluff. My methods are grounded in what it really takes to lead in a complex ecosystem.”

The Crossover: Consulting, Coaching, and Cardio

On paper, Liz’s career looks like three separate tracks. But to her, they’re perfectly aligned.

“Whether I’m leading a workshop, coaching a client, or on the bike at CycleBar, I’m doing the same thing: helping people believe in their potential,” she explains.

Her podcast, The Monday Method adds yet another dimension. “I wanted to create a space where ambition and joy coexist. Where it’s okay to want more—but not at the expense of your health or soul.”

Liz’s Go-To Mantras:

  • “What you say to yourself about yourself is the most important message you’ll ever live with.”
  • “What is for you won’t pass you.”
  • "Always define problems in a manner that makes yourself central to the solution.”
